Satanists Unveil Design for Proposed Oklahoma Monument

Recall that I previously highlighted the case of a Satanist group from New York that announced plans to erect a monument adjacent to a Ten Commandments monument outside the Oklahoma City statehouse.  This week, that group unveiled the design for that proposed monument.  The design features a seven foot image of Baphomet sitting on a throne, with a male child to his left and a female child to his right.

The New York Daily News quotes the Temple representative as stating that “the statue will also have a functional purpose as a chair where people of all ages may sit on the lap of Satan for inspiration and contemplation.”  A drawing of the design can be found here.
For those of you unfamiliar with Baphomet, the term was originally used to describe an idol or other deity supposedly worshipped by the Knights Templar.  In more modern times, Baphomet has been associated with Satanism after the Church of Satan adopted the image as its symbol.  For more information, please just Google it.

I'm sure that many good folks in Oklahoma, if they weren't already, will be horrified at the idea of this monument being displayed.  With the estimated cost of constructing the monument sitting at a whooping $20,000 - it may be a long shot that the project will come to fruition.  However, should the project move forward - the State better get a sound legal argument ready, explaining why one should be allowed and not the other.
